With fields in amateur golf becoming populated with younger, full time players, the traditonal championships have come under pressure to remain relevant.

Attracting a strong field that will generate a large number of world ranking point is now key and next April's tournament, which comes shortly after the West of Ireland Amateur Open, offers players a chance to chip away some winter rust before the season gets into full swing.

The field at Rosapenna will also be boosted by the fact that the resort's Sandy Hills Links will host the Men's Interprovincial Championship from July 6-8.

Not only that, the list of former winners is a strong one with Simon Ward, Connor Doran, Dermot McElroy, Aaron Kearney, Matt McAlpin and Eddie McCormack all lifting the trophy.
