The Etihad Airways sponsored PGA Sprint event at Seapoint GC finished in a five-way tie.

Brendan Walton (Island GC), Iarlaith Keane (Balcarrick GC), Graeme Dunlea (Ardare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort), Daniel Sugrue (Killarney Golf and Fishing Club) and John Dwyer (Ashbourne GC) ended the day locked together on one under par.

They finished one shot ahead of another quintet on level par, Graham Callaghan (Hollywood Lakes GC), Mark Staunton (Delgany GC), Brendan McGovern (Headfort GC), Gary Wardlow (American Golf) and Patrick Devine (Royal Dublin GC).

The links course in Co Louth, designed by Declan Branigan and Des Smyth, offered a real test and the final stretch of holes claimed a number of victims.

That was certainly the case for Walton, who was four under after 10 following two birdies and an eagle at the par four fourth only to see shots slip away at the 12th, 17th and 18th.

Of the leaders, only Graeme Dunlea bucked the trend by making his score on the back nine. Three over after four, he played the last 11 holes in four under, with birdies at 8, 10, 11 and 17.
