Power starts well on Web.com Tour; McGeady and Rice survive on Europro
West Waterford's Seamus Power was hitting the ball a mile off the tee as he opened with a two under 69 in the Web.com Tour's Rex Hospital Open at TPC Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh.
Based just two and a half hours away in Charlotte, the 27-year old Monday qualified for the PGA Tour's second tier circuit and found himself tied for 29th, five shots behind Carlos Ortiz of Mexico and 2007 Walker Cup player Colt Knost.
Power, who has won once and racked up another four top six finished on the eGolf Professional Tour in the region this season, is bidding to improve on his last appearance in the event in 2011.
He was 29th then too but he's certainly hitting the ball a lot further this year, averaging 319 yards in the first round.
PGA EuroPro Tour
Mick McGeady and Tim Rice survived another day of tough weather on the PGA Europro Tour to make the cut in the Dawson and Sanderson Travel Classic at Longhirst Hall Golf Course.
Irish PGA champion McGeady had four bogeys in a four over 76 to slip 10 shots behind leader William Harrold on three over with Rice posting a second successive 74 to share 47th on four over.
