McIlroy thinking tactically after Pinehurst visit

A local caddie encouraged Rory McIlroy to try the Payne Stewart putt at Pinehurst No 2. He even tried the Payne Stewart US Open winning celebration fist pump even if he did miss the putt.

Rory McIlroy was pleased with what he saw on his two-day visit to Pinehurst No 2 earlier this week. He's happy the driver will be a key weapon but when it comes to the greens, he's looking at it like a links test — play to the middle and you won't be far away. As for the "upturned  saucer" Donald Ross greens, he says he may just pop down to Seminole near his home in Florida to acclimatise for the next week.

Rory McIlroy played Pinehurst No. 2 for the first time on Monday to prepare for the 2014 U.S. Open.
