Newlands' Cian Curley is the only Irish player inside the qualifying place at the First Qualifying Stage Section B quaifiers in England and Germany.

The former East of Ireland champion fired four birides in a three under 69 to share 10th spot, four shots behind England’s Daniel Gavins and American Daniel Woltman at Frilford Heath.

The top 24 and ties after four rounds at the English venue will progress to the Second Stage next month with all those on two under or better set to progress.

Mourne's Reeve Whitson and Banbridge's Richard Kilpatrick are just a shot outside the mark, tied for 29th after one under 71s with The Island's David Rawluk tied 45th after a level par 72.

Amateur Barry Daly has work to do after a one over 73 with Matt McAlpin struggling after a four over 76.

The top 201 and ties will progress at Fleesensee Golf and Country Club in Germany, where Lucan's Richie O'Donovan had two birdies and three bogeys in a 73 to share 30th spot, two strokes off the last qualifying pace after the opening round.

Swedes Henrik Hilford Brander and Robin Askstrand, Dane Jacob Lauridsen and Finnish amateur Lauri Ruuska all carded five under 67s to lead by one.
