Round up: Carey top amateur on Alps; Captain Clarke trailing at Fancourt
Alps Tour — Carton House teenager David Carey was the leading amateur in this week's Red Sea El Ein Bay Open on the Alps Tour in Egypt.
The 18-year old, who is entered for next week's event in Egypt, had three birdies and three bogeys in a level par 72 at Sokhna Golf Club to finished tied for 13th on one under par, seven strokes behind the winner.
France’s Thomas Elissalde (73), an Alps Tour graduate last season, won his second Alps Tour title as he finished one stroke ahead of his compatriot Matthieu Pavon on nine under par after three rounds.
Sunshine Tour — Newly appointed European Ryder Cup skipper Darren Clarke is six shots off the pace after the first round of the Dimension Data Pro-Am in South Africa.
The former Open champion had three birdies and three bogeys in a level par 72 and share 45th place behind south African trio Danie van Tonder, George Coetzee and Justin Harding, who opened with six under 66s to lead by two strokes.
