McGee four back in Denmark
Ruaidhri McGee shot active over par 76 to trail leaders Adrien Bernadet and Nino Bertasio by four shots with a round to go in the the Made in Denmark Challenge at Royal Copenhagen Golf.
Just eight of the 66 players who made the cut breaking par and Bernadet and Bertasio were, somewhat unsurprisingly, among the best eight performers of the day.
Fenchman Bernadet produced the lowest score of the day, a four under par 67, to surge up the leaderboard and post a two under par leading total.
Italy’s Bertasio soon joined him after a 69, leaving the top pair one clear of overnight leader Jack Senior, Edouard Dubois and Andrew McArthur going into the final round, with Denmark’s own Mads Søgaard flying the flag of the home nation with distinction, just two shots off the lead.
Bernadet is a man in form after tying for eighth place in Turkey last week and he is looking to burst into the Challenge Tour winners’ enclosure for the first time in his career,
“It was a fantastic day – the best I have played in a long time,” smiled the 27 year old from Paris. “I have hit a lot of good shots this week and have managed to keep my mind focussed on one shot at a time which you really need to do around this golf course.
“The conditions were not as tough today as they were yesterday, but you still had to play well get under par on this golf course.
“I am really looking forward to the final round. It’s always a little more exciting when you are in contention and I am in a perfect position.
“I just have to try and keep doing the same as I have been doing for the first three days – I have to treat it as just another round of golf, another nice walk, and hopefully at the end of the day I can get a good result.”
Bertasio, meanwhile, is relishing the challenge of Royal Copenhagen Golf as he, like Bernadet, seeks that maiden Challenge Tour win.
He said: “It was a great round today – I just had one bogey and that was actually a good bogey. I hit it in the water on the 14th and had a three iron into the green. So when you have a three iron into the green and you find the bunker and manage to get it up and down for bogey you are pleased!
“But, yeah, it was a good day. I hit a lot of fairways and greens and was very steady. There wasn’t anything spectacular but that kind of suits my game to be honest. I like tough courses where you have to grind a little bit. I certainly prefer that to having to shoot 20 under so this kind of test suits me better.
“Tomorrow will be exciting – I am just hoping the weather forecast is going to be alright – but it will also be a case of trying to be boring and playing for the fairways and greens and trying to make birdies whenever you have the chance.”
