Racer Richie makes Open qualifying by a hair; ClubstoHire.com opens US branches
Lucan's Richie O'Donovan made a four-for-two playoff with seconds to spare to make Local Final Qualifying for The Open at The Island.
The former East of Ireland winner, now playing on the EPD Tour in Germany and Austria, shot a two over 73 at the Donabate venue and popped into Swords for what we're told was a haircut.
With Clontarf's Eamonn Brady posting a two under 69 and Castle amateur Alex Gleeson a 70, O'Donovan ended up tied for third with Limerick's Tim Rice, Derry's Mick McGeady and Portmarnock amateur Geoff "Slim Jack" Lenehan. Scores
Four were to play off for two spots but there was still no sign of O'Donovan until he roared into the car par with seconds to go before the off.
In the end, he took one of the two places alongside Rice as Lenehan and McGeady were forced to settle for reserve spots.
