Irish go backwards on moving day
Challenge Tour — Cormac Sharvin endured a disappointing third round to all but kiss his hopes of victory goodbye in the KPMG Trophy in Belgium.
As Germany’s Alexander Knappe continued his rich vein of form at Cleydael Golf and Country Club, carding a three under par 68 to hold a one shot lead going into the final round, Sharvin slipped 26 places to tied 34th after a one over 72.
The former Walker Cup star is eight shots off the pace on seven under par and a maiden win looks more than remote with 33 players on eight under or better.
Hoey goes into reverse in Austria
European Tour — Michael Hoey signed for a three over 75 to fall from the top 20 to tied 52nd in the Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card.
The Belfast man finished the day on two over par as South Africa’s Zander Lombard moved one step closer to a maiden European Tour title.
The talented 21 year old carded a four under par third round 68 to take a one-shot lead over China’s Wu Ashun, who signed for a flawless seven under 65.
Spaniard Adrian Otaegui and Grégory Bourdy of France were both a shot further back on nine under par while Joost Luiten – who requires at least a third place finish at Diamond Country Club to stand a chance of playing next week’s US Open – was in a share of fifth on eight under par alongside Englishman Ricard McEvoy.
