Harrington tied ninth in Japan
Pádraig Harrington ended a miserable run of four missed cuts in a row (and six from his previous seven starts) when he clinched a share of ninth in the ISPS Global Golf Cup in Japan.
The Dubliner, 44, carded four rounds in the 60s for the first time since he finished second to Ross Fisher in the 2010 Irish Open at Killarney, closing with a two under 69.
Ending a week that gifted him an Olympic Games ticket following decisions by Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell not to make themselves available for Rio, Harrington finished on 12 under par alongside Victor Dubuisson and Sang-Hyun Park, earning ¥2,830,00 (€24,800).
It’s the world No 167’s first top 10 finish since he tied for sixth in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii five and a half months ago.
South Koream Park Jun-won, the world No. 432, claimed his first Japan Golf Tour title when he beat Argentiana’s Emiliano Grillo in a playoff after they tied on 17 under 267.
Jun-won emerged champion after he birdied the first playoff hole while world No 47 Grillo could only manage a par.
South African Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 US Masters champion, finished joint fifth on 13-under 271 after a 69 at Tokinodai Country Club in Ishikawa Prefecture.
