McGovern earns Senior Open exemption for Carnoustie

Headfort's Brendan McGovern will make his senior major debut in next week's Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie.

The 50 year old claimed one of three spots available to players not already exempt who were in the top 30 in Order of Merit following the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

McGovern finished ninth in the event and moved up 15 places from 38th to 23rd on the Order of Merit, securing his place alongside Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Colin Montgomerie and the rest of the senior stars at Carnoustie from July 21-24.
