Tighe sets course record 63 in WestWood Elm Park Scratch Cup
Home player Richie Tighe added an incredible course record, six under par 63 — two eagles, five birdies and three bogeys — to his opening 72 to win the WestWood Club sponsored Elm Park Senior Scratch Cup by six strokes on Sunday
Starting at the third hole, the two handicapper opened his afternoon round with two bogeys before tearing the course apart in difficult, blustery conditions.
He produced a run of eight consecutive 3s from the fifth to the 12th, which included birdies at the fifth, 10th and 11th and eagles at the seventh and ninth.
He then added another two birdies at the 14th and 18th before closing par-bogey at the first and second to beat the previous course record, held by Elm Park's Tony O'Shea, by one shot.
Stephen Healy of Royal Dublin finished six shots behind in second with rounds of 69 and 72 with Shane McDermott taking third place.
