Ireland tied seventh in Espirito Santo Trophy

Ireland are tied for seventh after the opening round of the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy in Mexico.
With the best two scores to count for each three-strong team, sisters Morgane and Kim Metraux shot rounds of 68 and 69, respectively to give Switzerland a one-shot lead on seven-under 137 from the Republic of Korea.
Ireland share seventh on two over 146 with Austrian, Chinese Taipei and the United States after world amateur No 1 Leona Maguire shot a level par 72, Olivia Mehaffey a 74 and Annabel Wilson an 80 on the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club course.
Switzerland’s score of 137 on the par 72, 6,295-yard (5,752-metre) Mayakoba El Camaleon track ties for the third-lowest first-round score in championship history.
Australia, Ecuador, England, Italy, New Zealand, Norway and Puerto Rico were tied for 11th at 148.
In the individual standings, Morgane Metraux and Hyun kyung Park lead by one on 68 from Kim Metraux with Leona Maguire tied 16th, Mehaffey tied 30th and Wilson tied 112th.
