Three way tie in Arklow

Portumna’s Suzanne Corcoran, Donabate’s Pat Doran and Ballybunion’s Margaret McAuliffe share the lead after the opening round of the Irish Senior Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at Arklow.
They fired three over 75s to lead by one from Grange’s Sheena McElroy and Canada’s Alison Murdoch.
Three members of the victorious Irish Senior Women’s European Team are in action but while it was a good day for Corcoran and McElroy, Irish Senior Close champion Gertie McMullen shot 80 to share ninth spot on eight over alongside former winner Minna Kaarnalahti from Finland.
The Irish in the field will be keen to impress the selectors ahead of the announcement of the team to play the Senior Home International Matches at Alyth in Scotland from September 27-29.
