Late Brazill rally as five Irish made Copa de Andalucia cut
Naas’ Robert Brazill played his last seven holes in four under to share seventh place as five of the seven-strong Irish contingent made the 54-hole cut in the Copa de Andalucía in Marbella.
Brazill birdied the first at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina but dropped five shots to turn in 41 before roaring home in 32 with birdies at the 12th, 15th, 16th and 17th to add a one over 73 to previous rounds of 74 and 70.
At one over par, he’s 10 shots behind Marbella based Swede, Marcus Svensson, who fired a three under 69 to take a four-shot lead over Alejandro del Rey (71) on nine under par as overnight leader Ángel Hidalgo crashed to an 80 to join the Kildare man in seventh.
Seville’s Pablo Rodríguez-Tabernero is alone in third on four under after a 69 with compatriots Gonzalo Leal (71) and Adriá Arnaus (71) two shots further back in fourth.
The cut fell at 14 over par 230 which meant that Laytown and Bettystown’s Thomas Mulligan (76-80-86, 242) and Golf Clement de Ader’s Eamonn O’Driscoll (79-81-85, 245) missed out.
There was better news for the other Irish as Naas' West of Ireland champion Jonny Yates had four birdies and Irish Boys champion Mark Power made two as they carded two over 74s to share 10th spot on three over.
Power’s Kilkenny club mate, Luke Donnelly, shot 78 to slip to tied 40th on 12 over 228 while Rosslare’s John Brady (81) made the cut with a shot to spare on 229.
