Butler and Mullarney hunting glory in Fife

Maynooth University's Cathal Butler and Ronan Mullarney will be trying to chase down leader Robert Foley in the final round of the Fife Tournament at Fairmont St Andrews on Sunday.

Swiss Foley added a 68 to his opening 73 to lead on one-under 141 but Butler and Mullarney are tied for second, just four strokes adrift on 145, with another three Maynooth players inside the top 10 entering the fcinal round.

Kinsale's Butler birdied the 18th to card a 70 to share second on three-over with Galway star Mullarney, who made three birdies and four bogeys in a second round 71.

Dundalk's Caolan Rafferty also shot 71 for Maynooth to move up to tied seventh on 152 with Eugene Smith (71) and Eanna Griffin (72) tied for 10th on 153.

Maynooth's Jordan Hood (74) and Stirling's Adam Mulhall (77) were the only other Irish players to make the 162 cut.

The Irish Intervarsity Championship starts at Enniscrone next Wednesday.
