Ireland fall to Italy in European Amateur Men's Team Championship
Ireland bowed out of the battle for the European Amateur Men's Team Championship when they fell 4.5-2.5 to Italy in Austria.
Tony Goode's charges shared the foursomes 1-1 with Stuat Grehan and Paul McBride getting the win. But they lost the singles with Conor O'Rourke's one hole win over Giacomo Fortini and a halved match by John Ross Galbraith the biggest positives at Diamond Country Club.
Italy now face England (4-3 winners over France) with Sweden (4-3 v Scotland) taking on Spain (4-3 v Norway) in the semi-finals. (Scores)
There was no luck either for the Boys at La Manga where hosts Spain beat Ireland 4-1, winning both foursomes with Reece Black's 21st hole win over Eugenio Lopez Chacarra the only success.
Ireland now meet Germany in the battle for fifth place as Spain play Italy and Denmark meet Sweden in the semi-finals. (See scores)
In the European Ladies' Team Championship, Flight B, Ireland remained on course to battle for ninth place with a 4-1 win over Slovakia and will now face the Czech Republic.
In Flight A, Sweden meet England and Spain meet Italy in the semi-finals (Scores).
In the European Girls' Team Championship, Flight B, Ireland came from 2-0 down after the foursomes beat Norway 3-2 at St Laurence Golf Club in Finland.
Annabel Wilson (2/1), Sara Byrne (20th) and Mairead Martin (3/2) were the points winners.
They now face Slovenia with the winners to take on Austria or Finland for ninth place.
