Phelan has work to do in Mexico
Kevin Phelan could find himself five strokes outside the qualifying spots when the fog-delayed second round of the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Qualifying Tournament Mexico is completed later today.
The Waterford man added a 73 to his opening 74 at Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort in Mazatlan to share 72nd on three-over-par with the top 35 and ties who will be awarded membership already on two-under or better when play was suspended because of darkness.
The winner at each site will be exempt for the entire 2018 season and not subject to the reshuffle, where players are ranked at various points during the season based on individual performances.
The next 10 finishers at each tournament site will receive exempt status for the first half of the 2018 season an will be subject to the reshuffle for the second half of the season.
The remaining 24 players and anyone tied for the last qualifying position, will receive conditional status and will be eligible for the reshuffle.
American Eric Onesi added a six-under 66 to go with his opening 64 to lead by three shots on 14-under-par with 48 players still to finish.
Dublin Cian Curley will tee it up in the Colombia qualifier at Club Los Lagartos in Bogota next week.
