Gavin Moynihan made his first cut in a world ranking event for almost eight months at the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge in Aviemore.
As Michael Hoey fired a five-under 66 to share ninth place, just four shots behind Scotland’s David Law on three-under par, Moynihan birdied three of his last ten holes for a 69 to lie just a shot further back in 18th at MacDonald Spey Valley Golf Club, ending a miserable run.
Derry's Ruaidhri McGee was the only other Irish player to make the weekend, despite carding a 73 to slip to two-over.
Playoff defeat for McCarroll
On the PGA Europro Tour, Donegal's Brendan McCarroll was beaten by England's Mark Young in a playoff for the Jessie May World Snooker Championship at Clevedon Golf Club, picking up (£6,000) €6,823.
The 2006 East of Ireland winner (32) double-bogeyed the 16th and bogeyed the 17th, carding a three-under 69 to tie with Young on 11-under before losing out at the first extra hole.
Niall Kearney shot 66 to tie for 10th on eight-under.
