Cullen wins Leinster Mid-Am
Beaverstown's Gary Cullen closed with a four-under-par 68 to win the Leinster Mid-Amateur Championship at Corrstown.
The former touring professional, 42, has been battling back problems for several years but that was no impediment to him at the Dublin venue where he followed rounds of 71 and 74 by firing six birdies in the final round to edge out Corrstown's Alan Doherty and Greystones' Alan Condren by two strokes on three-under-par 213.
Killeen Castle's Paraic Connolly, who set the pace on five-under after 36 holes following rounds of 71 and 68, closed with a 79 to finish fourth on two-over with 2017 runner-up Jim Carvill from Banbridge in fifth place.
Doherty was hoping to win on his home course but he shot 74 to edge out Condren, who shot 71, for second place on one-under.
