Rumley and McCarthy lead Leinster Students Open

Kinsale’s Eric Rumley and Stackstown’s John McCarthy opened with three-under-par 69s to lead the Leinster Students Amateur Open Championship by a stroke at Killeen Golf Club.

They are one stroke clear of Newlands’ Darragh Smith and Mountkirath’s Niall Hearns with Thurles’ Aaron Ryan, Royal Portrush’s Jamie Knipe and Ballyhaunis’ Andrew Hickey tied for fifth after carding one-under 71s in the 54-hole event.

UCD leads the team standings by nine strokes from Maynooth University's A team.
