Flynn wins Irish Students Open by two

Maynooth University’s Darragh Flynn completed a week to remember when he captured the Irish Students Open by two strokes at Donegal Golf Club.
Just four days after helping Carton House to victory in the Leinster Final of the AIG Senior Cup at Blainroe, he showed he’s no slouch on links terrain.
He followed rounds of 71 and 74 on the muscular Murvagh links with a two-over 75 to win the Irish Students Open on one-over par 220.
Flynn held a share of the overnight lead with Woodbrook’s Tom Dowdall after after turning in one-under 36 to lead by a shot, eh found himself five ahead with three to play and could afford to bogey the 16th and double-bogey the 18th and still win with ease with a joint best of the day 75.
Dowdall shot a 79 to finish second on three-over 222 with Mullingar’s Adam Smith and excellent third on 223 after a 77 .
Flynn also helped his Maynooth (b) team mates David Brady and Paul Conroy edge out the Maynooth (a) Smith, Robert Abernethy and Conor Ryan for the team title by one stroke.
