Seamus Power shot an eight-under 64 in a Monday qualifier for this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open but lost out in a 7-man playoff for two spots.

The West Waterford man, who is playing out of the 126-150 category this season, made eight birdies in a bogey-free effort at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

At the First Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School Section D, Castleknock's David Carey opened with a six-under 66 to share fifth spot, two shots off the lead, at Bogogno Golf Resort in Italy.

Jonathan Yates was tied 26th after a 70 with Declan Loftus and Conor O’Rourke tied 40th after two-under 70’s.

Derry’s Ruaidhri McGee was 41st in his quest for one of 23 spots after a one-under 71 at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland.

In amateur golf, Ireland got their bid for a hat-trick of wins in the R&A Women's Senior Home Internationals off to the perfect start with a 5.5-2.5 win over Scotland at Co Sligo as England beat Wales 4.5-3.5.
