Yates two shots shy at Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada Qualifying School
Naas professional Jonathan Yates finished two shots outside the top 25 and ties who won conditional cards at the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada Qualifying School in Florida.
The former West of Ireland champion (27) followed a 70 with three rounds of 73 at Mission Inn Club and Resort’s El Campeon Course in Howey in the Hills to tie for 30th on one-over par.
Costa Rica’s Luis Gagne, who talked earlier in the week about what an incentive it is to see his former LSU roommate Sam Burns playing on the PGA TOUR, shot a final-round, five-under 67 to win by three shots from Cristian DiMarco and by four from amateur Zack Taylor on 15-under.
As the medalist, he won a full card and entry to every 2021 Mackenzie Tour tournament, a significant achievement for a player who previously held conditional status on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
“It feels good. I’m just really excited to have somewhere to play a full season and make a schedule. I’m really proud of myself,” Gagne said. “I played solid. I stayed really focused the whole time—all 72 holes. I didn’t ever lose my focus, and I think that was the key this week.”
