Geraghty wins Irish PGA Pro-Am at Carne with superb 66
Patrick Geraghty posted a superb bogey-free six-under-par 66 to win the Irish PGA Championship Pro-Am at Carne Golf Links.
The Druids Glen professional made the most of benign early conditions to card a course record six-under-par 66 at Carne Golf Links.
Playing the new Wild Atlantic Dunes course, Patrick went to the turn in two-under-par with birdies at the third and eighth. On the back nine, Patrick picked up further shots at the 11th, 13th, 15th and 18th.
Richard Kilpatrick (Banbridge GC) finished second with a 67 while Simon Thornton (Tulfarris Hotel) and Colm Moriarty (Glasson Lakehouse) finished joint third on -4.
The 111th Irish PGA Championship sponsored by Columbia Sportswear will get underway on Thursday with competitors chasing the €6,000 first prize. Scores
“It can get a bit unpredictable out there. The forecast is pretty windy, maybe some rain as well which will make any course trickier but especially here with the elevations on a number of holes. It could be challenging but we look forward to it,” said Moriarty.
Round one gets underway at 8 am on Thursday. Competitors will play two rounds on Thursday and Friday before a cut to the top 50 and ties.
Richard Kilpatrick and playing partners claimed the team competition in the pro-am with a superb score of 100pts, beating Ciaran Hegarty and partners on countback.
