Keeling five clear heading into final round at Brabazon Trophy

Roganstown’s Sean Keeling added a one-under 69 to rounds of 65 and 70 to take a five shot lead over Galway’s Liam Nolan into the final round of the Brabazon Trophy at Sunningdale.

Seeking a wire-to-wire win, the 16-year-old Dubliner leads on six-under par from his Irish teammate at the New Course.

Keeling is bidding to follow in the footsteps of David Long (1979), Ronan Rafferty (tied with Peter McEvoy, 1980), Niall Kearney (2009) and Cormac Sharvin (2015) as Irish winners of what is now a 76-year-old trophy.

Nolan shot a superb, three-under 67 to sit alone in second on one-under with Laytown and Bettystown’s Alex Maguire the next best of the Irish, tied 24th on five-over.

Scotland’s Connor Graham shot 67 and Swiss Nicola Gerhardsen a third successive 70 to share third on level par with recently crowned Flogas Irish Amateur Open winner John Gough who shot 72.
