In-form Nolan in contention again in South Africa
Liam Nolan is a whopping 30-under par for his last seven rounds, but he's got his work cut out to claim his maiden win at the MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood on the HotelPlanner Tour.
The Galway rookie (24) carded a five-under 67 in his third round in South Africa to share sixth on 15-under.
But he's seven strokes behind South Africa’s Daniel van Tonder, who is chasing his second victory in as many weeks.
Nolan finished third on his debut in last week’s SDC Championship, just a shot outside a playoff that saw Van Tonder claim victory over compatriot Altin van der Merwe.
The South African shot a six under 66 on moving day to take a three-stroke lead on 22-under over Australia’s Danny List, who shot a bogey-free 62.
“It would be amazing to win again on Sunday,” Van Tonder said. “It would help a lot towards my goal of winning the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy, and then I’m also chasing three wins on the HotelPlanner Tour, which secures me a DP World Tour card.”
Jonathan Caldwell shot 71 to share 49th on eight-under.
Meanwhile, Padraig Harrington moved up to 39th on three-under after carding a third successive 71 in the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship.
The Dubliner (53) was four under for his round with six holes to play but bogeyed the par-five 13th and double-bogeyed the 15th after driving into the water.
He’s ten strokes behind England’s Callum Tarren, who shot 72 to take a one-shot lead into the final round at Royal Golf Club as he chases his maiden win.
Tarren (34) went into day three with a two-shot lead but he was briefly caught by Dan Brown after following three birdies in four holes from the fourth with three bogeys in his next five holes.
But he dug in and parred his way home to lead on 13-under to claim the slimmest of leads over Spain's Pablo Larrazábal, Italian Francesco Laporta and Englishmen Brown and Brandon Robinson Thompson
“I'm a bit frustrated, really,” Tarren said. “I got off to such a good start, felt so comfortable.
“I've felt comfortable all week and I felt comfortable out there today. The start showed it - through seven holes, I was cruising. Just a couple of missed putts here and there, but that's golf.
“Final group tomorrow again and I have the lead so there's lots of positives to take from it.”
