Ballymena’s Dermot McElroy is tied for the individual lead entering the final round of the European Nations Cup in Sotogrande.

The talented 17-year old shot a three under par 69 in Friday’s third round to share top spot with Austria’s Lukas Nemecz on seven under par, two stroke clear of Alexander Levy of France and three ahead of Finn Miro Veijalainen and English pair Laurie Canter and Tom Lewis.

Overnight leader Ross Kellet of Scotland slipped four shots off the pace after a 76 but the rest of the Irish contingent are a long way behind.

England lead the team standings by seven strokes from France with Ireland in sixth place, 22 strokes behind.

With McElroy again contributing to the team, Paul Cutler weighed in with a 79 and Alan Dunbar added a 76 as Rory Leonard continued to struggle for form, posting an 82.

Cutler is tied for 30th on seven over par with Dunbar three shots further back in tied 39th.
