Eisenhower blow as sick Dunbar misses day one
Ireland’s Eisenhower Trophy hopes suffered an early blow when Rathmore’s Alan Dunbar was forced to withdraw from the opening round due to illness.
The reigning British Amateur champion was unable to tee off at the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club in Turkey which means that both Gavin Moynihan and Kevin Phelan’s scores must count on the opening day.
According to the GUI, it is hoped that Dunbar will have recovered in time for Friday’s play in the World Amateur Team Championship where the best two individual scores out of three count for the team title.
The United States team of Chris Williams, Justin Thomas and Steve Fox were the early pace-setters today, racing to 13 under par in the team competition. Scores
Williams shot an eight under par 64 with Thomas five under for his round with three holes to play.
The Americans were six strokes clear of France, Spain and the Netherlands.
Phelan and Moynihan are among the afternoon starters.
