Jamie Donaldson continued his commanding charge towards a third European Tour title and an automatic qualification spot for The 2014 Ryder Cup as Kevin Phelan fired a super 69 to make the cut with ease in the  inaugural D+D REAL Czech Masters.

Welshman Donaldson (69) maintained his one-shot lead at the halfway point as Phelan mixed four birdies with just one dropped shot to share 29th on three under par.

The Mount Juliet touring professional is six shots behind Donaldson, 38, who currently sits in eighth position in The Ryder Cup Points List.

He entered the second round with a single stroke advantage after a six under par opening round 66 and, having negotiated his first nine holes in one under, he soon put the pedal to the metal.

Birdies at the first (his tenth), third, fourth and sixth moved him four shots clear of the pack momentarily but he would follow that with back to back bogeys at the seventh and eighth to settle for a three under par 69 and a nine under par total, one ahead of Grégory Bourdy.

The Frenchman, who already has four European Tour titles to his name, signed for a five under par 67 to move to eight under for the tournament.

“I played nicely again and made a lot of birdies out there today, but a few bogeys so if I can go out there tomorrow and play as well as I’ve played over the last couple of days I’ll be in a strong position going into the final round," Donaldson said.

Scotland's Stephen Gallacher, who is just outside the nine automatic Ryder Cup spots, shot a 67 alongside Donaldson to move up to tied third on seven under.

Damien McGrane (70) is tied 51st on one under with Gareth Maybin (72) and Peter Lawrie (72), just making the cut on level par to boost their hopes of retaining their cards.

But it was a tough day for the rest as Simon Thornton (75) and Ruaidhri McGee (75) missed the cut by one on one over and David Higgins (70) failed by two.
