Grehan five clear in horrific East of Ireland conditions - 100kph winds forecast

Tullamore's Stuart Grehan posted a four over 76 in tough morning conditions to take a five shot lead in this afternoon's final round of the CityNorth Hotel sponsored East of Ireland Amateur Open at County Louth.

The 22-year old is the only player under par and leads on four under 212 from Knock's Colin Fairweather after a five and a quarter hour third round played in winds gusting up to 50kph with gusts of up to 100kph (61mph) forecast for the afternoon.

Fairweather shot a superb 73 to finish on one over 217 with Castle's Alex Gleeson third on 218 after 75 but Whitehead's John-Ross Galbraith saw his chances disappear on the 18th in the third round when he ran up a nine.

The reigning Irish Close champion lost his second shot to the right and after hitting his fourth into more trouble, he took three more to find the green and two putted for a tournament ending quadruple bogey.
