Sensational Dunne just one back in NCAA Championship in Florida
Greystones' Paul Dunne carded a three under 69 in the third round of the weather-delayed NCAA DI Championship Strokeplay at the Concession Golf Club in Florida to claim second place with a round to play.
A 22-year old senior at the University of Birmingham Alabama, Dunne recovered from two opening bogeys with five birdies to end the day alone in second place on six under par, just one stroke behind SMU's Bryson Dechambeau with several players still to finish.
Play was suspended for the day at 6:28PM due to lightning and the third round will resume at 7am on Monday with the final round scheduled to begin 30-45 minutes after any team and/or individual playoff(s), but no earlier than 10am local time.
After three rounds, Dunne's UAB were tied 19th and therefore outside the top 16 projected to qualify for the matchplay stages after 72 holes.
However, a top individual performance or even a victory would be a huge boost to Dunne's chances of selection for the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup side to face the USA at Royal Lytham and St Annes from September 12-13.
