Gleeson and McNamara joint top at Oughterard
Old Conna's Donal Gleeson and Monkstown's Cian McNamara shared first prize at the Oughterard Pro-Am on Friday.
The duo carded one under par rounds of 69 to finish one shot ahead of a five-man group – Sean Cannon, Damian Mooney, Mark Whelan, Michael McDermott and Neil O'Briain.
Gleeson started his round at the 10th and went to the turn in one under 34 with birdies at the 12th and 17th cancelling out a bogey at the par four 11th.
The 32-year-old maintained his steady form on the way home, clocking up seven pars, one bogey at the third and a single birdie at the par five eighth.
McNamara, starting his round at the first, dropped a shot at the second but hit back with back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth before dropping his second shot of the day at the par three ninth.
Out in level par 35, the 28-year-old birdied the 11th and 15th on the back nine but a dropped shot at the 12th saw him home in one under 34.
Castlemartyr Links' Alan Gleeson led his amateur partners to victory in the team prize with 94 points.
The Connemara Pro-Am is the next event on schedule, September 26/27. Cian McNamara will return to defend the title he won last year with a two round total of seven under par.
