Niall Kearney took a break from Challenge Tour action to win the McCabe Pharmacy Charity Pro-Am at the Farnham Estate on Friday.

The Royal Dublin golfer carded a one under par round of 71 at the Co Cavan course to hold off a group of five players on level par.

The 26-year-old made a sluggish start to his round dropping shots at the third and fourth before repairing the damage with back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth. However, a further dropped shot at the par five ninth saw him to the turn in one over 37.

Four pars followed at 10, 11, 12, and 13 before he kicked into gear with birdies at 14 and 15. He dropped another shot at the par three 16th but cancelled that out with a birdie at the 17th before closing out his round with a par at the last.

Ranked eighth in the PGA in Ireland Order of Merit before this start of play, this was Kearney's fourth victory in what has been a impressively consistent season on home shores.

In the amateur event, William Noble, of the nearby Co Cavan GC, guided his team to victory with 93 points, one ahead of Ashbourne's John Dwyer and partners.
