Record breaking Staunton on the Mark at Oughterard
Mark Staunton fired a course record seven under par 65 to win the Oughterard Pro-Am on Friday.
The Delgany pro collected six birdies and eagle on his way to victory, the only blemish on his card coming at the par three 13th where he dropped a shot.
“I putted a bit better than I have been doing recently and made the most of the bit of luck that came my way,” said the 34-year-old.
“I haven't played a lot of events over the last couple of years but I've tried to play a bit more this year and I feel that things are gradually starting to come back a bit.”
Shane Franklin finished alone in second following a five under par 67 with Michael McDermott (Pure Golf Leopardstown) ending the day in third with a 68.
Paddy Sheehy (McGuirk's Golf) walked away with the team prize guiding his amateur partners to success with 95 points.
