Tony Cleary leads into final day at Ulster Seniors
Woodstock’s Tony Cleary shows off the Connacht Seniors Open Championship trophy last year.
Woodstock's Tony Cleary eagled the last to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Ulster Seniors Open Championship at the Slieve Russell Hotel & Golf Club.
The reigning Connacht Seniors champion turned for home in one-under-par after following a bogey at the third with birdie fours at the sixth and ninth. Another dropped shot at the 12th left him on level par before he put in a tremendous finish, picking up birdies at the 13th and 14th before finishing with a sweet, eagle three.
His four-under 68 left him one stroke clear of Lurgan's Gary Clarke, whose 69 was matched by Douglas' Karl Bornemann with a bogey-free effort.
Former South of Ireland champion Jim Carvill sits alone in fourth after a one-under 71 with Fota Island's Sean Alley and Newlands' Anthony Brannock on 72 and Seryth Heavey on 73.
John Mitchell leads the over-60's category with Liam Halpin after they shot 80's while in the Over 65's, Garth McGimpsey heads Adrian Morrow by a shot after a 74.
