Burmester, Fichardt and Bradbury claim spots in The 152nd Open at Royal Troon
Dean Burmester, Darren Fichardt and Dan Bradbury have qualified for The 152nd Open at Royal Troon through the Joburg Open.
The Joburg Open was the first event in the Open Qualifying Series, which offers players opportunities around the world to qualify for golf’s original championship. The co-sanctioned DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour event was played at Houghton Golf Club.
Burmester claimed a three-shot victory after posting four rounds in the 60s, including a second round 62, to win the Joburg Open on an 18-under-par total of 262. He will feature in The Open for the third time after previously playing at Royal St George’s and St Andrews.
Fichardt will return to play in The Open for the first time since qualifying in 2017 by virtue of his victory in the Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
The 48-year-old carded a final round 64 to finish runner-up on 15-under-par and secure the second qualifying place.
Bradbury, who won the Joburg Open at the same venue last year, ensured his place in the starting field at Royal Troon with a final round 64 to claim the third qualifying spot.
The next event in the Open Qualifying Series is the ISPS HANDA Australian Open which is being played from 30 November-3 December at The Lakes & The Australian in Sydney.
Meanwhile, India’s Aditi Ashok closed with a six-under 66 to win the LET’s season-ending Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de España.
She won by two strokes on 17-under-par from the Netherlands’ Anne van Dam at Las Brisas in Marbella as Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab won the Race to the Costa del Sol and the Rookie of the Year titles.
