Keeling shows class to grab share of first round lead in Brabazon Trophy with super 65
Roganstown’s Sean Keeling produced yet another round to enhance his reputation and that of the Made In Holywood Academy when he opened with a bogey-free five under 65 to share the first round lead in the Brabazon Trophy at Sunningdale.
The 16-year-year-old schoolboy shares first place with Switzerland’s Jean Leon Aeschlimann after a superb round on the New Course.
England’s Kris Kim lies third after a 66 with compatriot Ben Willow in fourth following his 67.
Another Roganstown Academy player, Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley, ended the day tied for 11th with Laytown and Bettystown’s Alex Maguire after they carded one-under 69s.
Malone’s Matthew McClean shot 70 while Liam Nolan posted a 72.
The top 60 and ties after 36 holes will make the cut which means work ahead for Gweedore’s Padraig O Dochartaigh and Castle’s Robert Moran after their 73s, Naas’s Robert Brazill (74), Roganstown’s Patrick Keeling (75) and Galgorm Castle’s Joshua Hill (75).
At the close of play there were 16 players under par with a further 14 on even par.
