Ireland struggle in Sotogrande
The Irish men’s amateur team trails leaders England by 15 shots after the first round of the European Nations Cup at Sotogrande in Spain.
With the three best cards to count, the four-man side featuring Paul Cutler (73), Pat Murray (73), Dara Lernihan (76) and Alan Dunbar (78) is 11th of the 18 participating nations on 222.
England’s Matthew Haines, Tommy Fleetwood, Chris Paisley and Tom Lewis lead by an impressive eight shots on 207 from Germany and Denmark with Austria a further shot behind.
Denmark’s Daniel Lokke opened with a 67 to lead the individual standings by a stroke from Paisley (68) and by two from Haines.
