Kelly wins captain Buggy's prize at South East Alliance
Castlecomer's Ciaran Kelly defied typical March weather to win South East Alliance captain's prize at treelined Kilkenny on Sunday.
The six handicapper was first out in squally conditions and he played superbly, firing a 70 to win by two shots from the rapidly improving Carlow five-handicapper David Dowling.
The gross was a very close run contest with TW Murphy edging out the captain and plus one handicapper Michael Buggy with a 73 by virtue of his better finish.
As for the Golfer of the Year contest, Tipperary four-handicapper Tony O’Sullivan came out on top thanks to his consistency as favourite Daragh Herlihy, the five-handicapper from West Waterford, had a tough day on the speedy greens.
